What should I do if I can’t tolerate the colon prep?

How much will my prep cost?
Prep costs vary depending on your insurance carrier and prescription coverage. Please contact your pharmacy or insurance carrier to determine your prep cost.
What are clear liquids?
Basically, clear liquids are any liquid you can see through. Examples are broth (chicken, beef or vegetable), coffee (without creamer), tea (without milk or cream), jello (no red or purple dyes), popsicles (no red or purple dyes), water, and sodas. Clear liquids DO NOT include protein shakes or dairy products. Do not consume any type of alcohol the day prior to your procedure.
Can I chew gum or have a mint/hard candy before my procedure?
You can chew gum or have a mint/hard candy up until 2 hours prior to your procedure. Please remember, nothing by mouth 2 hours prior to your procedure!
How long will my procedure take and how long will I be at your facility?
Please plan to be at our center for 1 ½ to 2 hours. While the procedure itself takes about 30 minutes, there is additional preparation time prior to the procedure as well as recovery time after the procedure.
Will I be sedated for my procedure?
Yes, you will be sedated and comfortable throughout your procedure. The type of sedation you receive may vary based on your medical history.
How soon will I know the results of my procedure?
Your doctor will speak with you after your procedure regarding his or her findings. If biopsies were taken or polyps removed, you will be notified with the pathology results in 7 to 10 days.
Do I need a driver to take me home after my procedure?
Yes, you must have a responsible adult drive you home after your procedure. Because of the sedation you receive during your procedure, you may not drive for 12 hours after your procedure. No public transportation (e.g. bus, cab) is allowed unless you are accompanied by a responsible adult to assist you.
Does my driver need to stay at the facility during my procedure?
Our physicians request that your driver stay at the center while you are here with us. The physician will speak with you and your driver shortly after your procedure is completed.
Can I go to work after my procedure?
No, you should take the remainder of the day off work and rest at home. After receiving sedation, you may not drive for 12 hours, operate equipment or machinery, or make any critical decisions.
